Clark House, in Hobsonville, is the first heritage site published on Tohu Heritage: a New Zealand Category 1 Historic Place now available to explore in photorealistic 3D, from anywhere.
Originally named Ngaroma, the house was built around 1902 by Rice Owen Clark II, who had grown his family's pottery works into one of the country's most significant ceramic enterprises. He built the house as both a family home and a bold experiment, using hollow ceramic blocks of his own manufacture in place of brick. What resulted is a striking two storey Italianate villa, with ornate iron lace verandas regarded as among the finest examples of their kind in New Zealand, a carved kauri interior, stained glass windows, and a curved staircase that rises through the heart of the house.
You can explore Clark House now, and see the house's story continue to grow as we add more detail over time.
